Flavor of my Week: White Oleander

I haven't done a random, non-shopping related blog post for a while so I figure here I go. I also haven't done a Flavor of the Week post so I figured I'd at least title the post to pretend like I was doing one. Let's face it though, I have absolutely no dedication nor discipline when it comes to blogging. Anyway, this past week I've been totally consumed by White Oleander.

On Thursday I stayed up till 1:30am reading it and basically almost passed out at work. It was so worth it. It's such a vivid, visceral book. I think I like it so much because of how beautifully its written. I love the author's word choice and the fact that its also got a very compelling story.

I've also started visiting the following makeup sites - Just a Bowl of Mouldy Fruit and Bubble Garm. I love their whole too much makeup look, it's so British and I like the overall style of their blogs.

I pre-ordered Something Borrowed from The Book Depository. So cheap, its only $5.99 and no shipping charges. I just have to wait like two more weeks and it will get here. I'm so happy I didn't buy it since it comes up to about RM19 and the cheapest I can get it here is RM42. It's the movie tie-in but who cares since its only the cover that's different.

I'm going to make chicken tikka masala for the family tomorrow night. Got the recipe off Eat Live Run. I made the marinade today and my mum helped me modify it a bit, more chili, more ginger. Should be good I'll let you know.

I'm back on Diane 35 for acne. So far so good. No migraines but my eyes are super dry. Irritating side effect.

I also discovered this website, Nail Fiesta, which sells OPI polish at RM33 a bottle. Much cheaper than the RM59 store price. I'm planning on ordering Dulce de Leche next week. Hopefully it's a smooth process and I'll definitely get more.

Flavor of the Week: Eric Northman

So, as declared in my earlier post, I am completely obsessed with True Blood. Now, in the first season Eric Northman, the vampire sheriff of somewhere in hick-town South, was definitely not my favorite character. His hair was too long, he was cocky - but not in an attractive way and he was definitely just way too Scandinavian.

Fast forward to Season Two and I'm sold.

ERIC NORTHMAN

Now, I have to clarify he's really not my type. He's really tall, huge and just really Swedish. Wich is not my thing. But in Season Two a couple of things really changed things around for me.

1. He got his hair cut. Also his blond highlights are awesome.
2. He and Sookie have really good chemistry, unlike her OTT declarations of love she has going on with Bill.
3. He showed his sensitive side, with the whole sadness over Godric.
4. He is an ass - which I love, of course.

So now I must lust for him. Not Alexander Skarsgard, who I think is still a trifle too Viking and large. But Eric Northman from True Blood.

I leave you with Crazy Gaga's Papparazi video which Alexander Skarsgard features prominently in, for your viewing pleasure and also because he talks a lot of Swedish which is always super fun.

Flavor of the Week: Twitter

So yesterday sometime I joined the wonderful world of Twitter. It was fun-tastic. Still is. I think I might be wasting my life away using it.

I know what you're thinking, you got Twitter NOW? You're wayyyy behind. But cut me some slack - I live in Malaysia. It's kinda old even for Malaysia? Whatever.

As explained in the Wiki link above, Twitter is a social networking and micro blogging platform where you basically "tweet" whatever you want in under 140 characters.

Arguably most famous user: Ashton Kutcher. I think everyone heard about the whole Ashton Kutcher vs. CNN Twitter battle which was ridiculous is every sense of the word. Everyone's on the damn thing so it's only a matter of time before it becomes an essential marketing tool.

It's funny because I only got into it because I have had to use social media for work, ie. Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, etc. But now I'm faced with the question: How personal/real can I be on this thing? I would love to actually write what I'm thinking but let's face it my (almost) real name is tied to this. Do I throw caution to the wind and write about everything and then maybe face repercussions later OR do I adhere to a strictly online persona that's very pc? But then what's the point if everything is cryptic?

So while I muddle this over, how about YOU join me and sign up for Twitter here. See you birdies!

Flavor of the Week: What the?

So I googled my blog because I'm a jackass and I couldn't remember the URL and apparently I've never typed it into my browser so it doesn't know it automatically - ANYWAY- I googled my blog and found out that one of my Flavors of the Week had like 20 comments on the damn thing.

Which Flavor of the Week? The Cam Gigandet one. What the-why?

I read the comments and figured out it's because I said that Cam was hotter than Rob (Robert Pattinson) and cleaner and then I guess some people got really offended and kept commenting. People can get really worked up about Robert Pattinson. I mean seriously. I would say some stuff about the fact that he seems a little unhinged from his GQ interview and again that he's weird looking in real life BUT I mean I'm still TOTALLY crushing on him, so I can't say that his charm is completely lost on me. Then again I am a 12 year old girl so that shouldn't be surprising. Actually I'm 22. Anyway.

So yes, Flavor of the Week, actually of last week, my own blog post. Now who should I talk about...

Flavor of the Week: Jai Ho - You are my Destiny

So if unless you've been living under a rock somewhere you know the big hype that's been surrounding the Danny Boyle, Oscar winning, Indian/British Movie - Slumdog Millionaire. If you don't, you suck and I don't want to be friends anymore.

So basically after it became the "it" movie of the Oscars and everyone discovered how hot Freida Pinto is and how amazing slums are and how transcendental the movie is, The Pussycat Dolls cashed in on the hype and came out with an English version of the Oscar winning song - Jai Ho.

So if you want to see this song in its full glory, click on the link above. Now the thing is, I think I'm supposed to be offended because I'm Indian and the Pussycat Dolls are like trampling on my heritage or something... but the thing is I'm totally not offended. The song is really catchy and they're super smart for cashing in on the movie's popularity.

However, their dance moves in the video really offend me. They're super half assed, like they're trying really hard not to be too suggestive because the song is really wholesome and because there's A.R. Rahman singing along all happy and gnomelike in the background.

Anyway, enjoy the video, I'm just hoping it will be playing on the radio when I drive home today.

Flavor of the Week: GOOP

I know you're thinking- whatthehell? GOOP is actually a new discovery for me, something I came across while I was getting my usual dose of insight into humanity by reading The Superficial at work this morning - apparently it's Gwyneth Paltrow's lifestyle website. I know, you're thinking, Gwyneth Paltrow? Again, what? I've never been a huge fan in the past but recently she's been looking so good, basically, that I can't help it.

I am shallow, yes I am. In any case, GOOP details stuff she likes to cook, places she likes to go to, clothes she likes, things she likes to do, etc. And it spans two continents, Europe and North America. It's fixing my London craving because all I have to do is go there and look at gorgeous, gorgeous British hotels like The Berkeley, where I'm going to go and stay after I (a) win a crapload of money in the lottery (b) marry a decrepit millionaire and wait for him to die or (c) be really rich and successful myself. That can happen. Right?

So GOOP is a little pointless in my life but it's pretty and it makes me think about one of my alternate futures. In which I wear tailored clothing, own a vacation home in the Hamptons and have a blingin Chopard watch.

Flavor of the Week: Robert Downey Jr.

So I know that Iron Man was like so 6 months ago and that the last time I actually saw Robert Downey on TV was when the Golden Globes were on but I mean seriously, I saw the guy for five minutes and I haven't stopped jonesing for him since then. So he's like a multiple flavor of the week for me.
ROBERT DOWNEY JR.

So apparently he's been acting since he was teeny tiny and then got very famous and then was on Ally McBeal and then he was in rehab and then he did a few movies, namely, Iron Man, which was a huge hit and he's back with a vengeance.

This is good news for everyone with a pulse because he's freakishly charismatic, hugely entertaining and is the best thing ever, ok?! So here's Robert Downey Jr. my flavor of the week, also Gong Xi Fa Cai to all Chinese friends, I'll write more stuff about my life soon!

Flavor of the Week: Donnie Yen

Now I know, this is a little out a character for me because this dude isn 't particularly hot, he isn't particularly young and he clearly isn't particularly that famous. In Hollywood. But apparently he is in Hong Kong. Or with Chinese boys. I really don't know.

Anyway, yesterday my siblings and I watched Ip Man at 1U. It is about Yip Man who was a martial artist who practiced and taught Wing Chun. Bruce Lee was one of his students. In any case, the movie traces Yip Man's life in Fo Shan, China and the Japanese occupation of China. Needless to say there is a lot of ass kicking in this movie and the choreography is probably the best I've ever seen. Now, I have never properly watched a Bruce Lee movie so I can't be comparing stuff. But Donnie Yen, who stars as Yip Man, is amazing.

DONNIE YEN

So for this week, Donnie Yen is my flavor of the week. All average looks, old man, super crazy talented martial artist that he is. The movie has its flaws but the fight scenes are just beautiful. Anyway I would recommend everyone, unless you're really not into ass-kicking-but I mean that's crazy because everyone is, to go watch this movie when you can. It's really quite inspirational. I mean after the movie I was all like - yeah I'm going to go-learn some crazy shit and whoop some ass! And I'm sure you'll feel the same.

Flavor of the Week: None

I've got zip this week guys, probably because I'm actually doing work, work when I should just be sleeping. Then I tried to upload that Luda, Chris Brown, Sean Garrett video and it didn't happen so... No flavor this week! Next week though I'll figure out something/one great. In the meantime, I could not upload this but check it out nonetheless. This song is so catchy I can barely stand it.

Flavor of the Week: Fruitcake

I have no time for beautiful people anymore. Plus I saw/watched nothing that made me feel particularly inspired. And no one in politics/world has done anything cool that I am aware of. I did however like the fruitcake at the office Christmas party.

FRUITCAKE

So.. fruitcake is my Flavor of the Week. It's good, sweet and filling. It's basically perfect. Except when there are maraschino cherries in them. Then it is disgusting because maraschino cherries are a nausea inducing food.

Flavor of the Week: Cam Gigandet

So I know, this used to be the Flavor of the Month but then... I tried watching interviews of Robert Pattinson. He is really boring. And he's hotter with an American accent. In addition in this one interview he looked a little, well, unwashed and also his chin kept making me think about my Latin American lectures in uni about the Hapsburg jaw and how it was a sign of the royal family's inbreeding. Not that I think he's inbred or ugly, just maybe in certain lighting...

Maybe Preetha's right. Maybe he really is just a PWB (Plain White Boy). And what's the only thing better than a PWB? A DWB. A Dirty White Boy.

CAM GIGANDET

So here is Cam Gigandet, the quintessential I-had-an-abusive-childhood-and-now-must-beat you looking actor. As you can see he's pretty much super hot. He's not actually dirty literally, he's more like dirty, figuratively. And I (and other people I'm sure) have had him picked out as a hottie since he played the baddie, Volchok, on the O.C. and then in that subsequent gem of a movie, Never Back Down. He was also in Twilight but then he had long hair and was really pasty - so don't check that out for his good looks.

Unlike Rob Pattinson, he's charming in his interviews albeit a little wasted sometimes. Plus his body is sick. And Preetha I know you must be lamenting but I can't help it I'm a sucker for unsuitable asses. In any case, enjoy Cam this week and I'll be back soon with the next Flavor of the Week!

Flavor of the Week: Robert Pattinson

I know most of you are familiar with how intensely shallow I am and how infatuated I get with different fake people and things. Like footballers, actors/actresses, movies, songs, etc. etc, I don't discriminate... So in keeping with that I've decided to introduce a new "Flavor of the Week" regular blog post. My choices could be determined by if someone is really hot and famous at the moment, or if something really cool happened or if... I make up a reason in my head. This week it is the lovely:

ROBERT PATTINSON

This picture is taken from the movie "Twilight", he is not usually this white or angsty looking. But I like him this way best.

Now I know what you're going to say, "Dini... that's so OBVIOUS. He's like on every magazine!" And I agree, I definitely thought the exact same thing about him since he was such a blah Cedric Diggory. Then I watched Twilight and I decided that it didn't matter what anyone said. I am in LOVEEEEEEEEEE. Like in gut wrenching, 13 year old teenage madness on the verge of watching Twilight more than the 2 times I've already watched it - loveeeeeeeeee.

I know what you're going to say Preetha, that he's just so white. And he is, there's no denying it. I may be too old for this kinda nonsense but hey it's the way I've always been and I don't want to change! Also since I'm really flaky about this kind of stuff my love probably won't last, so check in next week for the Flavor of the Week!
