Dini's Day Off

I was supposed to work today, which is a Sunday btw, but instead I got to go home early because basically things were kind of slow which was AWESOME because I was resigned to spending like 10 hours at work being bored out of my mind but instead I went to Subang Parade with my Mom and bought awesome stuff. We were supposed to go get my mother some Kanebo lipstick but she hated all of their lipsticks and everything else that was actually kind of expensive. Anyway I wanted to check out Bobbi Brown's new Treatment Lip Shine SPF 15 but they weren't in stock! I was kind of bothered but instead I just bought the following things:

1. My May copy of Instyle

First of all, ScarJo looks smokin' hot on the cover, I don't even care that I slightly hate her. Loved her in The Island, but that's about it. Also, it's Instyle's Best Beauty Buy issue which comes at the perfect time considering I'm just about losing my mind over my obsession with make-up and since I'm also compiling this crazy Beauty Want/Need list. Turns out one of their Best Buy for Inexpensive Lipstick was the one I just so happened to pick up...

2. L'oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in Pashmina

So I couldn't find a damn picture of the actual color I bought on the internet since they don't seem to make Pashmina for the US or the UK so I took this crappy picture of my lipstick. Anyway its good practice for my promised make-up reviews. Anyway a search for the perfect lipcolor, whether a lipstick or lipgloss, has been consuming me because I can't seem to find anything that's right. It's either too coral, too pink, too red or too brown. Most of the time I just prefer my lips with just Vaseline on in it because I think I have pretty colored lips. This lipstick is perfect because its basically my lip color but a little darker. Also its not too dark so I don't feel like it's too overwhelming or old woman. I still think a bronze/brown/red/pink lipcolor would look good on me but for now this will do.

3. I bought Glee: The Music, Volume 2

I already had Glee: The Music, Volume 1

It's pretty good, I definitely think that the First Volume is superior to the Second but hey, it's Glee! I have to support this show so I had to buy it. So far my favorite songs on it are Imagine That which is sung by the entire cast and Don't Rain of My Parade which is belted out by the incredible Lea Michele.

4. I bought my mum some lipliner from The Body Shop. So I guess that's going to be her present :)

4. Then my mom and I got smoothies from Boost Juice. They were very good

That's about it. I am working on my mega list of beauty wants but I have changes to make since reading Instyle's Best Beauty Buys and I also think that I should maybe not do too many about brushes since they're not all that exciting. I mean they're exciting but they're not shimmer eyeshadow exciting, you know what I mean?

Chickenpox Quarantine: Day 7

I REALLY didn't do much today.

1. I mean yeah, I did read The Third Summer of the Sisterhood, but that was more out of obligation than anything else.

2. I sorted out my entire like 15 years worth of crap that I've collected so that I can start scrapbooking.

3. I watched half episodes of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, THS: Dirty Dancing and bits of Hancock.

4. I watched the latest Vampire Diaries episode. It was satisfying as always.

5. I watched Glee on StarWorld. Man I love that show. Also I love Lea Michelle/Rachel.

Chickenpox Quarantine: Day 1

So it had been a fairly lovely day so far but I screwed it up in the past ten minutes by being an ungrateful ingrate to my lovely mum who basically got me being rude to her because she A. Bought the wrong kuih (see picture)and B. Got me coconut water for the second day in a row because it's supposed to be good for pox riddled me. And why am I being such an idiot? Because the kuih is not what I like and the coconut water is just way too much and basically I'm just taking it out on her that I'm already tired of being holed up in my room. Without actually being sick. Apart from the pox. And I think I might be running out of shampoo. And also I've read all my books. And I just feel so bloody useless. As you can see, I'm not in great form.

Ok so right, things I did today.
1. Read Marian Keyes' Sushi For Beginners for the millionth time. I really like that book, I think it's pretty much my favorite book of hers. I've read almost everything she's written. Maybe I should buy the rest...

2. Watched The September Issue and you know what, I didn't think it was that good. Yeah sure I got some insight into Vogue and Anna Wintour, but it just confirmed for me that I actually don't like the stuff that is in the magazine, even if I am unknowingly wearing trends that she propagated. Anyway the whole thing seemed a little too staged. It was seamless though, which I did appreciate.

3. I watched the Glee episode Ballad. I pulled my chair from inside my room and sat on it so that I wouldn't transfer "my sickness" to anyone. Great episode, Rachel was in top form as usual and Finn confirmed that I have a secret attraction for awkward overly tall, white men. Or maybe just to him. Could Cory Monteith be dating Taylor Swift? If he is my crush will be over since she actually seems, as Preetha so eloquently puts it, like someone with the personality of a toothbrush.

4. Made myself a grilled cheese sandwich and heated up Campbell's tomato soup. Remembered Katie and our times eating grilled cheese at her place on Sherbrooke. Oh those were the days... Anyway that was probably the highlight of the day.

I'm going to apologize to my mother for being a jerk. I must after all abide by the words of Gilda, remember that your mother is like a rubber band, each time you're mean to her she stretches. One day she might snap. She will always love you but she will never feel the same about you again. Gilda was my therapist at McGill. Awesome lady - totally changed my life. I'll write all about it one day.

It's March already?

I don't know why but it's like 2010 was yesterday and now it's March. I mean seriously! It's not like I was even doing anything interesting in January or February. Speaking of, haven't been out with any other dudes lately. BUT I did get an increment and bonus which was NICE. Well it wasn't huge or anything but it was nice to just see mah money kind of increasing, little by little. Though I still feel unbearably poor. But you know, I'm sure there are other people far worse off.

What's new, God, I had like a ton of stuff I wanted to write down and now, like ten days letter I've got nothing. Work is busy because my boss' boss has discovered I'm pretty competent. I'm grateful for the extra work though because work in general was getting too mundane and just too easy. At least its a challenge now, even if I do have to take stuff home.

I watched Alice in Wonderland in 3D with Ching Wen, Laetitia and Yati yesterday. I bought and planned the whole thing and then when both Lae and Yati ended up NOT coming to lunch I was so angry, I had a full blown rage blackout, which for the record I think is really unhealthy. I didn't even tell them how I felt namely because I feel like maybe its just the way that they are and maybe its a Malaysian thing. Which Lae, a French person, has adopted. Seriously I just hate it when people blow off plans or change plans or whatever, without a proper reason. It's just incredibly rude and it shows that they don't respect you or your time. Wow. Can't believe I'm still so angry.

You know what I LOVE and am not mad at. Glee. I love it, my current YouTube routine consists of watching Rachel and Finn's No Air over and over and over:

How good is that? They are just so in love. It's fantasmic.

I must now go and do minutes. Bloody, bloody minutes.

BTW Alice in Wonderland was good, I don't care what the reviews say.

DON'T STOP! BELIEVIN'! GOTTA HOLD ON TO THIS FEELIN'!

I am in loveeee....

With GLEE!!!

STAR WORLD just started airing the first season in Malaysia last week - so I guess we're super behind but I don't care because its fantabulous. I mean seriously, its caustic and witty and the cast can really, really sing.

Basically here's the premise: Dreamy high school teacher wants to revisit the heyday of his high school career - because lets face it his life, complete with batshit crazy wife kind of sucks - by forming a Glee Club (showchoir)with these misfits. There's Rachel, who is also batshit crazy - completely redeemed by the fact that she sings like an angel, Mercedes - black chick, Tina - Asian chick, Artie - wheelchair bound dude, Kurt - very effiminate sounding small dude and Finn - quarterback/singer/stupidest boy ever. There's also a whole bunch of awesome side characters, Sue - the evil cheerleading coach, Quinn the sexual but celibate cheerleader who is also Finn's girlfriend, the aforementioned batshit crazy wife who used to be prom queen and is now just sad and materalistic and Emma the OCD counselor who is not so secretly in love with Will.

It's good because it's very sharp in the way that it kind of deals with everyday problems and makes them laughable and yet makes us understand that these are things anyone can go through. The best part about it (aside from the singing) is how funny it is, which it is. Basically everyone is this caricature but its fantastic because its like the way you imagine how terrible and awesome high school is - in your head.

And the singing - WOW -its just glorious.

I mean check this video out, it was their first big song on the pilot - SONG ON PILOT I can't embed the bloody thing because for some reason they're like crazy protective over the content...

And this one which I just saw yesterday in the second episode:

This one I can embed - ha-ha!

Anyways as you can probably tell I'm in love with the teacher, Will aka Matthew Morrison. He can sing AND he can dance. Plus he's got smiley eyes and a thick crop of curly hair you just want to get your hands into. Yup I'm long gone.
